Tim's Guest Column in the Boston Herald

Type:  Announcements

Tim wrote the following guest column in the Boston Herald Saturday, September 4 responding to Herald Columnist Howie Carr.

Howie, your latest column was confusing.  You don’t want me in this race?  Poor little Charlie Baker might not be able to win it on his own?  Why do we bother having elections at all?

Let’s take a quick step into your fantasy world just so we can give voters a clear picture of what you would like to see.

“Prince Charles, the rightful heir to the thrown of Weld, Cellucci and Romney rides in to evil Deval’s kingdom of Taxachusetts on his shiny white pony.  Taxachusetts is a land where poor little Howie and the rest of the people have been suffering after four years of evil Deval’s misguided leadership.  In an uproar, the citizens, led by the brave warrior Howie, rise up and unanimously declare Charlie Baker lord of all Taxachusetts.  Howie and his brave white knight Charlie Baker ride off into the sunset together hand and hand, rainbows fill the sky and we all live happily ever after.”

Quite a fairytale isn’t it?  I bet you feel all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it.

But this isn’t a fairytale, Howie.  This is America—here we have elections to choose our leaders, not coronations.  Or maybe you agree with Deval Patrick’s comments and wish this country “wasn’t free” as well?

I know you are fed up after four years of Deval.  Trust me, most of us are.  In fact that is why I am running.  I am running because both of these guys are dangerous for the future of Massachusetts and voters deserve a different choice.  I am proud of my record and I will stand by it.  I have made government work for the people of this state—something neither of the other candidates in this race have a record of doing.

As for your white knight, Charlie Baker, quite simply, he is no white knight at all.  He is the same Charlie Baker who irresponsibly saddled Massachusetts taxpayers with billions of dollars in debt from his Big Dig financing scheme.  He is the same Charlie Baker who made millions of dollars in salary on the backs of the middle class, raising insurance premiums as CEO of Harvard Pilgrim.

Suddenly this fairytale of yours is starting to look a bit more like Grimm’s rather thanDisney, Howie.  This state can not afford four years of Charlie Baker any more than we can afford four more years of Deval Patrick. That is why I am running.

Your logic seems to be “anyone but Deval”.  Why should we have to settle, Howie?

To borrow from the white knight himself, we can do better than “anyone but Deval”. In fact, the Commonwealth can do better than Big Government Deval Patrick and Big Business Charlie Baker.  This year voters can choose Independent leadership.  They can choose someone who actually has a record of making government work.  I am in this race to give them that choice.

Over the next 58 days me and my Jeep will be criss-crossing this state, asking people for their vote, otherwise your fairytale will end up being their nightmare.
