Cahill is Committed to Western Massachusetts
Campaign says Governor and Baker are letting voters down
This weekend Governor Patrick withdrew his participation from the September 7th debate on the Bax and O’Brien Show on WAQY in Springfield. In turn, Charlie Baker backed out of the radio debate. The Cahill Campaign today released the following comments related to the upcoming gubernatorial debate schedule.
“Governor Patrick has let voters down in Western Massachusetts by committing to a major debate and then pulling the plug with a week to go. His campaign is stringing event organizers along and cherry-picking debates to attend,” said Cahill Campaign Manager Adam Meldrum. “Springfield is ranked 348 out of 351 in per capita income in the state, ranked the 18th most dangerous city in the country and nearly a quarter of its population lives below the poverty line. It’s no wonder the Governor is backing out of debates in an area that is seeing firsthand his unfilled promises over the past four years.”
“Meanwhile, Charlie continues to duck events as he did in the beginning of this race and seems to have difficulty identifying Western Massachusetts on a map. His campaign is using the Governor’s schedule as a determining factor to shape his own,” said Meldrum.
Each candidate has publicly said they are committed to at least 8 debates this campaign season. However, the Governor and Charlie Baker have only agreed to 5 debates before Election Day. Below is a list of pending debate invitations in Western Massachusetts that have been sent to each candidate. Treasurer Cahill is committed to attending each of these debates and is calling on the Governor and Charlie Baker to do the same.
1. 9/7: WAQY Bax & O'Brien Show Radio Debate - East Longmeadow
Cancelled.
2. 9/20: Pittsfield Gazette TV Debate - Pittsfield
Cancelled–the date did not work for the Governor and in turn Baker would not confirm.
3. Proposed late September: WBUR Radio Debate - Pittsfield
Neither the Governor nor Baker could commit, so another date will be proposed.
4. 10/14: Brad & Bo Show Radio Debate - Springfield
The Governor and Baker have not confirmed.
5. 10/18: ABC 40 TV Debate - Springfield
The debate is pending the Governor’s response.
6. 10/21 WWLP Channel 22 TV Debate - Springfield
